The 1967 Mustang brought the first major redesign. Although it was longer and wider, the Mustang kept the same wheel base of 108 inches. The grille opening was made larger to give the Mustang a meaner look as the rear taillight panel was concave. The fastback now reached all the way to the rear of the trunk, and on all three models you could find simulated panel scoops on the rear quarters.

Opti
onal front disc brakes came with power assist, and the '67 Mustang was the first vehicle to use a dual hydraulic system. The front suspension was also redesigned and widened to give the car an overall smoother ride.

One new engine was added to the line up, the first Mustang big block, the 390ci. Rated at 320hp, the 390 used a single 600cfm Holley four-barrel carburetor with cast iron intake and manifolds. All Mustangs containing the 390 had a dual exhaust system. A total of 28,800 Mustangs with the 390 engine were produced. Only 472 Mustangs were built with the 289 V-8, as the GT Equipment Group option was mandatory with the 271hp 289.

The GT Equipment Group included the grille mounted fog lamps, power front disc brakes, dual exhausts with chrome quad outlets which were excluded on the 289hp 289, GT gas cap, F70x14 tires, handling package, rocker panel stripes, and GT or GTA (for auto transmission equipped GTs) emblems. 24,079 Mustangs had the GT option.

Only with the GT Group was the Competition Handling Package available which consisted of firmer suspension components, limited slip rear axle and fifteen-inch wheels with wire wheel covers.

The interior on the '67 Mustang was redesigned. A new dash was added, which had the Rally-Pac and also integral air conditioning. Two new options were the tilt-away steering wheel and fold-down rear seat on the fastback model. Also added to the option list included cruise control, a folding glass rear window on the convertibles and an Exterior Decor group including a hood with rear-facing louvers that contained turn signal indicators, wheelwell moldings as well as a pop-open gas cap. The galloping Pony inserts were not included in the Interior Decor Group option.

The standard wheel covers on the '67 was a 10½ inch hubcap or a 21-spoke wheel cover. The optional styled steel wheel were wider with a wider trim ring and had a blue center cap

Continuing from the previous Mustangs was a long list of dealer-installed options which included the Cobra kits.

1964 1/2 or early 1965

The first Ford Mustang rolled off the assembly line on March 9, 1964. On April 17, 1964, the Mustang was introduced to the public at the World’s Fair in New York. Before the day was over, Ford had secured 22,000 orders for the vehicle at dealerships across the country. As such, the Mustang was considered an instant hit with consumers.

Features

  • Horizontal Speedometer Layout Similar to Ford Falcon
  • U-Code, F-Code, or D-Code engine
  • Generator for Charging Battery
  • Large horns mounted on Frame Behind Radiator

Contrary to popular belief, the first model year for the Ford Mustang was 1965. Mustangs produced between March 9th and July 31st of 1964 are often coined the 1964 ½ Ford Mustang by enthusiasts. Initial production of the second round of Mustangs began on August 17th, 1964. Both the original production Mustangs and the second run are technically considered 1965 Mustangs by Ford. That’s not to say there aren’t differences between the two. The first Mustangs produced feature unique characteristics that set them apart from those produced after July 31st, 1964.

For instance, the 1964 ½ Mustang features a generator charging system for the battery as well as a generator charge light. It also features either a U-Code, F-Code, or D-Code engine. Additional highlights include a horizontal speedometer layout (also found on 1965s), similar to the one on the Ford Falcon. The Mustang was, after all, based on the Ford Falcon. Thus, the early models carried over some of these features.

Other features of a true 1964 ½ Ford Mustang include a brake-light pressure switch on the master cylinder as well as large horns mounted on the frame of the vehicle behind the radiator.

Another difference is the front hood of the 1964 1/2 Mustang. The 1965 models, produced after July 31st, 1964, feature a rolled front edge, unlike the 1964 ½ model which features angled edges that are not folded.

The 1964 1/2 Mustangs feature full wheel covers, a chrome grille with vertical bars, and the famous running horse emblem. They also feature carpeting throughout. Front bucket seats were standard, with a front bench seat optional. Buyers had the option of 3-speed, 4-speed, or an automatic transmission.

MUSCLE CAR

Muscle car is a term used to refer to a variety of high performance automobiles. At its most widely accepted the term refers to American 2-door rear wheel drive mid-size cars of the late 1960s and early 1970s equipped with large, powerful V8s and sold at an affordable price for street use and drag racing, formally and informally.
As such, they are distinct from two-seat sports cars and expensive 2+2 GTs intended for high-speed touring and road racing.
Building on the American phenomenon and developing simultaneously in their own markets, muscle cars also emerged in their own fashions in Australia, South Africa, the UK and elsewhere.
4x4

Four-wheel drive, 4WD, 4x4 ("four by four"), or AWD ("all wheel drive") is a four-wheeled vehicle with a drivetrain that allows all four wheels to receive torque from the engine simultaneously. While many people associate the term with off-road vehicles, powering all four wheels provides better control in normal road cars on many surfaces, and is an important part of rally racing.

In abbreviations such as 4x4, the first figure is the number of wheels; the second is the number of powered wheels. 4x2 means a four-wheel vehicle in which engine power is transmitted to only two wheels: the front two in front-wheel drive or the rear two in rear-wheel drive.
There is often confusion as to the difference between 4x4s and SUVs. This leads to criticisms of 4x4 vehicles in the media that should actually be directed at SUVs (see SUV Criticism).

MUSTANG MACH 1

MUSTANG MACH 1

Ford Mustang Mach 1 was a performance model of the Ford Mustang that Ford produced beginning in 1969. The original production run of the Mach 1 ended in 1979 because theMustang II coupe was being phased out in favor of newer Mustangs on the Fox bodyplatform

The Mach 1 returned in 2003 as a high performance version of the Mustang. The Mach 1 wasdiscontinued again after the 2004 model year as the SN-95 platform was replaced by the newer S197 platform for the 2005 model year.

The name "mach 1" as used by Ford was originally introduced in 1959 on a concept "Levacar" originally shown in the Ford Rotunda. This concept "vehicle" utilized a cushion of air as propulsion on a circular dais. This concept vehicle was orange and white.

MACH 1 INTRO

The Ford Mustang was introduced in 1964 as a sporty "pony car" to attract younger buyers into Ford products. After only a few short years of development, Ford saw the need to create performance Mustangs to compete with GM and their release of the Chevrolet Camaro andPontiac Firebird. While several performance options had existed in the form of factory 289's (from the '65s on) & factory FE engines (new for 1967 with the S-Code Engine), the vast majority of Ford Mustang's performance mantle was carried by cars modified by the legendary Carroll Shelby. 1969 was the benchmark year for Ford Mustang in its proliferation of performance names and engines. No less than 6 factory performance Mustang models were available (Boss 302, 429, Shelby GT350, GT500 and the Mach 1). Additionally, 9 variations of V-8s were available in the '69-'70 cars.

REGENERATION OF MACH 1 IN 2004

During the 1990s, the preeminent performance Mustang was the SVT Cobra. Following the departure of the Fox chassis in 1993 and the arrival of the SN-95 in 1994, Ford also sought to eliminate the 302. (Now marketed as 5.0 Liters; although 302 CID is closer to 4.9 L ) Drawing on its newly developed OHC architecture engines known as the Modular, SVT created the 1996 and up Cobra around several variations of the 32 valve, all aluminium 4.6 liter (281 CID) V-8. Below the SVT in performance was only the GT, reintroduced in 1982 with the 302 HO "5.0", later turning to the 16–valve SOHC V-8 in 1996. While still well behind GM competition in acceleration (the base Camaro Z-28 engine from 1993 and up made 275 hp (205 kW) and rose to 305 hp (227 kW) in 1998), the sales on the new SN-95 style cars skyrocketed and by 2002 Ford Mustang sales topped both Firebird and Camaro sales combined. With GM's withdrawal from the "Pony Car wars" in 2002, Ford had a free hand at the whole market but nonetheless created what was arguably the fastest stock Mustang up to that point in time with the 2003-2004 SVT Cobra. However, concerns over a price gap between the GT and Cobra, as well as interest in keeping sales up before the release of the all new 2005 S197 Mustang prompted the creation of two unique mid-range performance models: The 2001 Bullitt GT and the 2003 and 2004 Mach 1 both designed by Scott Hoag.

2004 saw only minor cosmetic changes to the Mach 1. 2004 Mach 1s can be identified by bare aluminium finished valve covers, as opposed to the 2003's black finished covers. Outside, 2004 Mach 1's wear 40th anniversary tags ahead of the doors while the 2003 has the traditional Mustang Running Pony and Tri-Color bar. The lone interior change was the deletion of the overhead "cargo net" mounted on the headliner. Despite pre-production rumors, the horsepower and torque ratings were not increased in 2004. At 305 hp (228 kW) and 320 lbf·ft (430 N·m), many observers believed the motors to be underrated. Chassis dynomometers typically hold stock 2003 and 2004 cars at 275-285 rwhp and 295-305 rwtrq (SAE). With a drivetrain loss of 15% this equates to 323–335 hp and 345–360 lbf·ft (465–490 N·m) of torque.

Unlike many limited edition cars, 2003 Mach 1 owners had a variety of stand out colors from which to choose. To these, two new colors were added for 2004. In addition to Black, Dark Shadow Grey Metallic, Torch Red, Zinc Yellow (2003 Only), Oxford White and the Mach 1 only Azure Blue, Competition Orange and Screaming Yellow were added as color options.
